Return to Mysterious Island is a great game for those who love inventory puzzles. Its strong points are its unique inventory combination system and puzzles that allow multiple solutions to problems. It isn't a very long or difficult game for someone who has played a lot of adventure games

The Adventure Company and Kheops have done a terrific job with Return to Mysterious Island. This is a solid adventure game with clever puzzles, beautiful graphics, and interesting locations. The idea of surviving on a deserted island far from civilization may not be a new theme, but it has been applied very successfully in this game. Return to Mysterious Island is a great way to rediscover a Jules Verne classic. If the idea of overcoming nature’s challenges, surviving in a forgotten land, and unlocking the mysteries of an exotic island interest you, do not miss this game.

Return to Mysterious Island has, literally, dozens of useful items to find and collect so kudos goes to Kheops Studios for designing this function of the game so well.

All in all, Return to Mysterious Island was an enjoyable game. I suggest that if you see it on a shelf, pick it up and try it out. You might be surpised.

I had great fun with this game, as did my husband, but it's not for everyone. Fans of games like Jewels of the Oracle may miss having logical puzzles, and there is no humor to speak of. However, if you enjoy leisurely exploration with no deadlines, and non-linear gameplay, then you should enjoy this game, especially for the $20 price tag.

One of the most interesting aspects of Return to Mysterious Island is the way it's partially nonlinear. You can combine the abundant inventory items in many ways. Sometimes there's only one solution to a puzzle, but often there are a few different things you can make to get past, say, a stick-wielding monkey or vile sea beast intent on devouring you. The game encourages creativity, and it rewards points for how many items you find and combine into useful objects, so you can try for a higher score if you replay it.

The game is a joy to play. The puzzles are clever and just hard enough to be interesting and rewarding to solve. I have played it alone but it’s just as much fun to sit down with the kids and play it.

Conclusion:
Yay! Cool game, now all they need is the multi-player version as above, it’d make it so much more wunnerful then. But seriously, its got graphics, its got game play, its got plot, it’s a more thoughtful kind of game, it's even got captain Nemo too and the Nautilus, which is cool in its own right. So all this combined, definitely makes me want to recommend this to my friends, and to you who read this too. Go out on November 12th, buy this game, you probably wont be disappointed, unless you’ve only got an Atari ST computer or something, then I wouldn’t recommend it really, other than to look at the cool artwork on the box.

Return to Mysterious Island does something few other adventure titles have pulled off by having appeal for both fans of and newcomers to the genre. The puzzles, atmosphere, and story are interesting and clever enough to hold the attention of an adventure veteran, but the real-life logic and short length make RTMI instantly accessible to folks looking for a high-quality diversion from head shots or +3 helms of wisdom.

Kheops have once again come up with a quality adventure game. We enjoyed Egypt III and it's been enjoyable to play Return to Mysterious Island. One of the problems with Egypt III was it's length and whilst Return to Mysterious Island isn't as short it would have been great if it had been a bit longer.

Return to Mysterious Island is a fun adventure game with a lot of content, but players who aren’t experienced in Jules Verne and his books, “Mysterious Island” and “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” might not get all of the references in the game. However, they still might find the game enjoyable as an adventure title.

Resurrecting popular works of fiction has long been a favorite pastime of adventure game developers, but few such adaptations have been as successfully realized as Return to Mysterious Island.

It's a rare pleasure to find a game that surpasses expectation, but Return to Mysterious Island is just such an accomplishment. Simply put, it's a game I suspect everyone will enjoy, regardless of personal preferences or experience. With modest ambitions, it succeeds in what it tries to be and forsakes what it knows it can't. It embraces the things we cherish about the genre, but innovates just enough to be truly fresh and new. It may not be splashy or epic or complex enough to make many Top 10 lists, but as it retails for a very affordable price, it’s great value for a few fun-filled evenings of adventuring goodness.
A much simpler formula this time... Combine money with game box on counter. Use on cashier. What do you get? Return to Mysterious Island. You are getting it, right?

Rating games is a wrench, and falls down to one core ideal: do you rate universally, or in the context of the genre and the players? Universally, RTMI will have limited appeal in this world of FPS games and tedious sports licence iterations vomited forth. I believe the masses are asses, and will rate (as always) in context; which means that RTMI nets a better score and, frankly, it deserves it. I was expecting another mediocre first-person exploration game with little plot and pathetically surreal puzzles. RTMI is a game that does not patronise the player, and remains intelligent throughout. It has also taken a colossal risk in presenting a world essentially bereft of human life, and the game is truly the environment and the protagonist. RTMI manages to shuffle the genre forward a little, and this unassuming little game will catch you unawares and ensnare you. It may not last more than a week or so of play, but the quality more then compensates. And there are monkeys, which is a recipe for success.

RTMI turned out to be a far more enjoyable game than I anticipated. I encountered no hardware or software problems, and the quality of the game was quite high. But what I enjoyed most of all was playing a game with so many things to do, so many different ways to do them, and so many different ways to "score points". This last factor even resulted in something not typically found in most adventure games -- namely, replayability. While the general course of the game will not change, the player may encounter new objects, puzzles that weren't solved the first time through, or even alternate endings to the game.

And so am I recommending Return to Mysterious Island? You bet. In a year that has been lacking in adventures and role-playing games -- the two genres I typically review -- Return to Mysterious Island is more than a welcome find, and, along with "Syberia II," is one of the best adventure games of the year.

Return to Mysterious Island is by no means the toughest virtual adventure released for the personal computer. To succeed you need to be patient, creative, attentive to your surroundings, and most importantly, willing to engage in endless experimentation. At no point do the designers pose insuperable challenges or unfair enigmas.

What we've got here, really, is a very solid and fun adventure game. It's a little too short, but there's a good bit of replay value, since you score points for solving puzzles in different ways and with different item combinations and every hundred points unlocks some bonus artwork. I also found it rather easy, but that may have been just me. Return to Mysterious Island has a likable main character (who I hope we see more of in the future), a brief but entertaining plotline, and enough clues to keep you moving along steadily when you get stuck. Fans of the novel will get a treat seeing some of the locations described there rendered out in front of them, and people who've never heard of the novel will still find a worthwhile game.

In the end I really had a lot of fun playing „Return to the Mysterious Island" although it was quite a short pleasure of about 10 hours. I might have succeeded quicker than that if the sheer amount of items had not confused me so badly later on. It was actually entertaining to explore the island and its hidden spots but I expected more after playing the demo. In comparison a lot of time is needed to make yourself comfortable on the island, that is to look for food and tools, but after a certain point in the game when we know where we are heading it became harder to concentrate on what smaller tasks had to be accomplished first, the spirit of exploration suffered and the speed in playing accelerated. From this moment I had a sneaking suspicion that there was not enough story to drive on the action accordingly. The really beautiful graphics and atmospheric sound along with the explorer feeling in the first half of the game and the not too difficult, sometimes very interesting puzzles though justify a recommendation to all fans of the genre even those who, like myself, do not get overly excited about first person adventures in 360° surroundings.

The game is almost completely bug free. The only bug I found was a recurring incoming phone call on one screen every time I entered from one direction. I received the call yet again on another screen and never again anywhere else (should have happened only one time period). The bug didn’t hurt gameplay, but it was really annoying at the time.
