I don’t know what more I can really say to convince you of how superb a game ECHO: Secrets of the Lost Cavern truly is. The game presents an epic storyline of knowledge and history, breathtaking music and ambiance, and a beautiful, photo-realistic world to explore steeped in a rich back-story of factual information from one of the earliest time periods in human civilization. Above all else though, the puzzle-based adventure is laden with one unique, innovative, clever and thoughtfully challenging puzzle after the other, and in this particular genre that’s where it counts the most. Except for a few nags, adventure games really don’t get a whole lot better than this, and thanks to a bargain-basement price tag you can get in on the experience for a mere 20 bones, now that’s a steal if I’ve ever seen one.

As a whole, this is an interesting game, with a good story and nicely done puzzles. It's a pleasure to review a game that has obviously had much care taken with the execution, instead of being rushed out the door. The subject matter is sure to interest most adventure players, and the puzzles are integrated into the story logically, for the most part.

During the course of the narrative, a symbol flashes on the screen informing the player that something in the documentary database has just been introduced into the story. This addition makes Echo more than a game, it’s also a collection of knowledge; this is certainly a game that children (and any adults who’d like to increase their knowledge of the Paleolithic) will benefit from in a variety of ways.

I did delve into the database and found it to be clear, concise and informative. It would be a shame if you played this game and didn't have a browse.
Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern doesn't stretch the boundaries of game making, and there is nothing really new to be encountered, but it is a polished and well made product that provides good solid gaming and a pleasant weekend adventuring.

ECHO is polished and technically well done. The prehistoric setting is new in adventure games, and although the game's educational slant may not appeal to everyone, most of the background reading is optional. If you like your games puzzle-heavy and story-light, ECHO is for you

ECHO: Secrets of the Lost Cavern surprised me. I was surprised at the artistry and ingenuity of “primitive” man. The characters in Arok’s world experience a knowledge of and connection to the natural world that has somehow been lost in more modern times.
At the game’s heart are the wall paintings from caverns like the one at Lascaux, and once the game is finished these images are hard to get out of your mind. Their rediscovery in 1940 brought crowds of sightseers (rightly so – there is much to marvel at). Attempts to circulate the air and to admit admiring crowds caused the artwork to degrade so rapidly that now most of these paintings are no longer available for public view. In ECHO, the gamer works her way through various challenges in a fascinating primeval environment, arriving at last to see these treasures fresh and unspoiled.

As I stated above I got the feeling that the game would be great for a younger audience, probably those that are twelve to seventeen, because of the realistic information that is presented. I also think that most adventure fans would be able to enjoy this short but good game by Kheops Studios. At a price of only twenty dollars, I think the game is worth it to these groups of people. I enjoyed the game for the most part and I consider myself to be a fan of the adventure genre.

The puzzles incorporate the whole prehistoric theme of Echo surprisingly well. You'll often have to gather items you find in your environment to build simple survival tools, like slingshots, spears, and waterskins, or even just to start a small fire

Even given its shortcomings, I think that I would still say that I enjoyed ECHO. It was a very entertaining game, it provided some interesting "edutainment" value, and I was once again highly impressed with the graphical design of an offering from Kheops Studio. I would have preferred the game to have been a bit longer, the puzzles a bit better designed, and overall game play more non-linear. But my overall experience was a good one.
